Best option for insurance when trying to get pregnant?

I have to quit my job to care for an extended family member. My family will be losing health insurance as a result. My husband is self-employed, and we do not qualify for medicaid. I am trying to get pregnant, and am unsure of what my options are. I am under the impression that if we get independent insurance, maternity coverage will not kick in for 6 months to a year, depending on the plan. My question is, are there insurance plans out there where maternity coverage will kick in right away? I know that Cobra is an option, but I am looking to avoid it, if possible. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Would you qualify for medicaid if you were pregnant. We only qualify when I am pregnant and then as soon as the baby is about 6 mo we don’t. I think they really push it so that kids get good prenatal care. But you might call the health department and find out what they suggest.

Use Cobra but check if your employer’s provided insurance covers for maternity costs!! If yes, it is the cheapest choice you have for one year as you will have to pay for the monthly insurance costs at a group insurance costs. Remember you can request to pay for only for yourself and not for the entire family as a package as currently done. Your choice!! If not, shop for one at one!! You may ant to call Blue Cross-Blue Shield!! Best wishes!!
