Diabetes Type 2, why does obesity make a person have insulin resistance?

in Insulin Resistance

Can ANYONE explain or send me a detailed animated video link of what happens to the cells when they become insulin resistant due to a person being overweight?
I’ve searched a lot and everyone just states how excess weight is a contributing factor, but WHY?
Does the fat clog the insulin receptors?

I found this online… Hope it helps.

Abusing the insulin function of the pancreas

A main function of your pancreas is to release insulin anytime it “hears” that there is too much sugar in the blood. When you eat a wheat bagel, cold cereal, a toast of white bread, instant oats, sweetened juices, not to mention donuts, croissants, or biscuits, you are asking your pancreas to release insulin immediately.

If you eat these types of food items several times a day, you are abusing your pancreas because to lower the level of blood sugar, this organ has to “work” several times each and every day. And the same way we get exhausted working every day around the clock, your pancreas gets also exhausted and finally he throws the towel in.

The effect of overworking the pancreas

One of the most serious effects of forcing the pancreas to constantly release insulin is the damage that starts to take place in the arteries. When we eat a high glycemic meal or we drink a can of soda, sports drink, or even fruit juice, the rapid rise in blood sugar causes significant inflammation to the inside of the artery (the lining inside the arteries is called endothelium). This inflammation is the start of what scientists now believe to be the initial step leading to insulin resistance.

Elevated sugar in the blood vessels following an unhealthy meal is one of the major causes of inflammation to the lining of the arteries, primarily the smallest arteries in the muscles, the capillaries, and starts a body response trying to repair the damage. Unfortunately, the inflammation that results from trying to repair the damage can harm the artery even more. This creates a malfunction inside the lining of the artery to the point where it is no longer able to function normally.

Elevated blood sugar levels increase free radicals

When your level of blood sugar is elevated, it produces an increase in the amount of free radicals. This production of free radicals, oxidative damage, happens shortly after you eat a high glycemic during the time when the blood sugar is rising. Repeated oxidative stress inflicts severe damage to the capillaries of the muscles and it is the beginning of insulin resistance.

It doesn’t!!! Less than 40% of obese persons have insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes. More skinny people have insulin resistance.

I am one of the skinny people who has never been overweight, under active who is type 2 diabetic on insulin and oral medications.

Your premise, “what happens to the cells when they become insulin resistant due to a person being overweight” has been believed for a long time but they have been finding it isn’t always true. For many of us, our internal blood glucose management went haywire first and because of that our bodies turned the extra glucose (it wasn’t managing well) into fat–the condition happened first then the fat. And for many Type 2′s it’s in our genes. I’ve always eaten healthy but did like things like a good pasta chow-out or in late summer a corn mania feast. But even after I stopped eating all the things recommended by all those diet gurus to lose weight, I just kept on gaining, gaining, gaining. I even stopped eating (had the flu) for a week and managed to gain 8 pounds. I also believe that the additives put in so much of our food is contributing to the damage done to our bodies causing us to become a fat nation (maybe a fat world). Our food animals are fed stuff to make them fat so the farmers can make more money on each animal. Our wheats/corn/rice/etc. have been genetically enhanced so they grow big and fat (the original wheat/corn/rice were these spindly things that wouldn’t have qualified as subsistence food) and all that genetic manipulation might be doing something to us. There are toxins and other stuff in our drinking water that even most water departments admit to and can’t do anything about. There’s fallout and other stuff in our soil, the soil they grow organic veggies in even. If this fat nation seems like it’s a sudden incident to a whole nation, maybe it’s not only that our eating choices have changed from mom’s home cooking to fast food but also because of the way the human race is killing ourselves by what we do to our environment. Fat doesn’t clog the insulin receptors–the insulin receptors stop being able to “feel” insulin when it comes by (and i don’t think they know fully why yet). Fat cells are where the body stores excess glucose–you have to have excess glucose for the body to decide to create the fat storage units (it won’t make fat cells if there isn’t excess glucose).
